City proposes ordinance to enroll health department services in Medicaid managed care

First Deputy Commissioner Joseph Hollendoner informed us today that the Mayor’s Office has submitted a pre-election ordinance proposal that would give the Chicago Department of Health authority to enter into contracts with Medicaid managed care entities. Mr. Hollendoner expects the legislation to go before the Chicago City Council in January. The next scheduled City Council meeting is on January 21, 2015.  He did not provide a copy of the proposed ordinance to the Board.

Contracts with Medicaid managed care entities will allow CDPH to provide services to more persons with Medicaid insurance and receive reimbursement for those services. It should facilitate coordination of mental health care with primary medical care services and provide the City’s Medicaid insured with financial coverage for medication prescribed by CDPH psychiatrists.
